Story

Get to Know Us

This term our group (Group 1) has learnt a lot about racism and the dangers of racial discrimination.

What is racism?

Racism is the oppression and marginalisation of individuals based on the colour of their skin, ethnicity, nationality, and citizenship

Racism can be overt, such as through racial slurs, or covert, in the form of microaggressions or acts of exclusion. Racism involves prejudice, hatred, or discrimination against a person simply because of how they look (their skin colour etc) it primarily affects individuals from Black, Asian, and Minority ethnic backgrounds, as well as individuals from mixed-heritage backgrounds.

What is colourism

Colourism is where lighter-skinned people in ethnic minority groups are advantaged and favoured over those with darker skin. This practice can be seen across various ethnic minorities, including Black, Asian, and Latino American communities.

We know that racism can have damaging and long-lasting effects, as many members of our group have faced racism.

However, when coming together to discuss this topic, we learned a lot about different people's cultures and the root causes of stereotypical thinking. For example, in one of the videos a question was asked: "Did your parents shape the way you view different races?" The answer was yes.

Our findings are quite interesting, which is seen in our podcasts and our survey results section. As over half of our group is bilingual, meaning that our members come from various countries and belong to different races. However, we all share a common goal of wanting equality.

Our aim

Is to use this platform as well as our Instagram to educate people on this racism, by sharing our experiences as a way to combat the negative impact of racism and debunk harmful stereotypes!

Our Mission

We are a group of 19 students, who are committed to fighting inequality.

Our mission is to encourage and promote equality. We want to raise awareness and provide guidance to promote equality. We firmly believe that no individual should face mistreatment based on their skin colour or race

Through this platform, we have created our own podcast as a space to discuss how racism has personally impacted us and as well as this.

We have crafted our own blogs, offering thoughtful analyses and personal reflections on racism and equality and as well as this videos too, which both English and Chinese subtitles.

Our Team

Our team consists of 19 members. Each of us are dedicated and motivated to tackling racism. We have each taken the time to create informative podcasts and blogs in order to help educate others on the continuing issues around racism. Together (with your help!) we intend to guide society into becoming more inclusive and accepting of each other's race and culture.
